Medical Surveillance

Medical surveillance is a fundamental strategy for optimizing employee health. I & O Medical Centers offer a comprehensive medical surveillance program that has a primary focus of prevention, through early detection and elimination of hazards in the workplace. Medical surveillance contributes significantly to the safety and success of both employers and employees. It is important to have a Medical Surveillance program in place that can analyze screening results from groups of employees to look for abnormal trends in their health. Being proactive about workplace health helps to detect potential problems and execute appropriate preventive strategies.

Our Medical Surveillance program at I & O Medical Centers includes HazMat Tests, Hearing Conservation, and Respirator Fit Tests, to name a just a few elements of the program. I & O Medical Centers will develop a customized Medical Surveillance program to suit the needs of an employer and the employee's work environment.

Hazardous Materials

Many work environments may expose employees to hazardous materials, either as part of their duties, or incidentally. This includes employees that:

  • Load, unload, or handle hazardous materials
  • Prepare, package, label or mark hazardous materials
  • Operate a vehicle used to transport hazardous materials

Common hazardous materials that we test for at I & O Medical Centers include but are not limited to:

  • Lead
  • Cadmium
  • Asbestos
  • Heavy Metals
  • Hexavalent Chromium
  • Arsenic
  • Benzene
  • Raw Sewer Exposure

Hearing Conservation

Many employees work with in loud environments or around noisy equipment. A hearing conservation program is required if the noise level exceeds that detailed in OSHA guidelines. Employers are required to reduce the noise at the source through engineering solutions, or regulate that employees use hearing protection. It is important to monitor the hearing health of employees to ensure the measures taken by the employer are appropriate and effective. I & O Medical Centers will initiate a hearing conservation program for employers, which includes training, and conduct audiometric testing for employees in accordance with OSHA standards. Our objective in audiometric testing is to identify workers who are beginning to lose their hearing and to intervene before the hearing loss becomes worse.
